I went to photograph friends ‘The Darlings Of Chelsea’ at call the office in London, Ontario on Friday. The band that played prior to the darlings was this band: The Skag Barons. I wasn’t sure what to expect based on their name but, needless to say I was impressed. Their music sounds like guitar heavy, riff based rock & roll meets 70′s stoner rock (reminiscent of Sahg – http://www.myspace.com/sahg) meets Nirvana? What really took things to the next level for me was their drummer, who’s name is Nevada and apparently, is the only stand up drummer in Southwestern Ontario (as in he stands while he plays)! Give yourself a minute to digest the fact that this guys name is so incredible, now understand that he also has a custom drink that, as he described it “tastes like you’re walking through the desert”. I can now say, speaking from personal experience that the ‘Nevada Sunrise’ is the closest thing to tasting like what it would be like walking through a desert…it is also delicious (thank you Nevada). I’ll be making another post on the darlings sometime over the next couple of days so stay posted for a description and their photographs.

This was also the first time I’ve photographed a band live at Call The Office (as I’ve only been residing in London, ON for a little over a month) and I must say to any of those working for or associated with Call The Office – MORE LIGHTS PLEASE. This is worth mentioning as those that know me understand that I am very anti flash when it comes to live band photography. As I am the proud parent of a Nikon D700 (whose name is Alabama, middle name currently under construction), I was able to shoot this without many problems (the high ISO performance of the Nikon D700 sensor or, effectively the Nikon D3 sensor is seriously insane) and again, would like to give a shout out to Nikon for all of the outstanding low light, high sensitivity work they do on their sensors.
