Our couples often ask how they should go about preparing for their engagement shoot, so we went ahead and compiled a list of things you should keep in mind:
- Wear something comfortable and something that is really “you” – you don’t want to regret what you were wearing in a few weeks after the shoot! Our shoots can last anywhere from 4 – 8 hours, so it is very important to wear clothing and shoes you will be comfortable in.
- Wear clothes that are slightly complimentary, but not too “matchy”. Also, it’s not good to have one of you dressed up and the other wearing their everyday clothing.
- Make sure you are dressed for the weather. If you’re not warm, it’s going to show in the photographs. If the forecast calls for rain, don’t forget your umbrellas! (Umbrellas are a great prop for photographs as well)
- Be prepared to walk! I enjoy taking a lot of photographs outside, which usually means we do a fair amount of walking.
- Bring a brush and some makeup if you would like to do some touch ups in between sets. Outfit changes are also encouraged, as they add another touch of variety!
- For my style of photographs, I try to focus on candid moments – so be prepared to have some fun!
- The best time for your session depends entirely on the location – if it’s an urban location, the morning is a great time because it gives us more time to run around to different locations. If we are shooting in the countryside, an evening shoot may be best; twilight (not the movie!) can be very romantic. As for the season, you can choose any season you wish. We are lucky to have four seasons in South-Western Ontario and each can be equally as beautiful.
The most important thing is to enjoy yourself, have fun and relax – this is a great formula for capturing the best photographs.

Audrey and Albert are into three things: wine, food and jazz. After careful consideration, we decided to leave the jazz out (this time) and keep the wine and food in. The next step was to determine the vineyard. Statrus Vineyard is unlike any other vineyard I have had the pleasure of visiting. It uses geo-thermal heating / cooling, has incredible blended wines (exclusively!) and is very Scandinavian in design. We started off at Stratus, then made out way towards Niagara On The Lake’s classic and beautiful main strip; concluding by taking a break at the coast and searching out a barn with more character than you, me and all of your friends. Our day together was filled with laughter and spontaneity; I can’t thank them enough for being so radical.
A huge shout out goes out to Audrey and Albert for exceeding my expectations and generally being an amazing couple. Thank you, thank you aaaaaaaannnnnd thank you!
Enjoy the photographs, I know I seriously enjoyed shooting and processing them!
